Total Recall

Movie Review

Total Recall has been described as the most astonishing sci fi action blockbuster you could ever go and see. In a way that's true, the time it was released back in 1990 it showed the audience something new with great special effects, amazing tense action performed by Arnold and the ones who were after him.

Originally written as a short story by Philip K. Dick, the story was passed around and edited for a screen play back in 1974. Failure to finance the film even after over fifty drafts had been re-written the film seemed to be at a permanent still. Until ofcoarse when in 1986 Arnold Schwarzenegger got to read the script he was most interested by it and decided it would be something he'd like to do. Not able to forget a few years later Arnold was successful in convincing Carolco to buy the rights for him. Later the script made its way to Paul Verhoeven who did a a great job in directed the flick.

Set in the future of 2084 A.D. Douglas Qauid (Arnold Schwarzenegger) awakes from his nightmares about Mars together with the the mysterious woman who always appears in his dreams and seems to be tied with him. With his current wife Lori (Sharon Stone) who begins to worry about Quaids dreams and fascination with Mars, she tries to convince him otherwise. No can do it's the future and there's a number of things one can do, Quaid decides to have an implant from Total Rekall Inc. which will take him to Mars without the need of travelling there and it all happens within Quads mind and is as real as anything else.

The implant is unsuccessful to the reason of a memory cap in which neither Quaid or the Total Rekall Inc. previously knew about before giving him their service. They let Quaid go trying to keep it quiet and let it off as if nothing ever happened. This is pretty much were the real action starts, his work friends catch him and attempt to kill him, his wife turns into a vicious attacker, "what the hell?" "Who da hell am I?" lifes been a dream all along, now all there is for Quaid to do is finally make that real trip to Mars and find out what's really going on.

The movie will take you on a trip to Quaids undreamable reality with the war between mutants a bad government with the head being the demandingly evil Vilos Cohaagenonly seeking maximum profits and no consideration for its colinizers, which opposes the mutants, hides secret facts with the mistreatment to workers who previously worked on the colonial tunnels and has even limited the air supplied making it an element of terrorism against the colonist. This sci-fi flick contains more action, gore then most sci-fi type movies. Blending in the action and sci-fi was truelly a success with Total Recall. And for those who don't like the odd sci-fi flick, then this might be something to consider, as mentioned before the properties of this movie do make it watchable and in my case watchable many times.
